Minister Chris Hazzard has confirmed that additional disabled parking bays will be provided in Warrenpoint.
Following very productive meetings with local residents and Newry, Mourne & Down Council it has been agreed to provide disabled bays in the Council owned off-street car park in the vicinity of the new crossing, and to bring forward proposals to provide a disabled parking bay in the lay-by outside Diamonds Restaurant on Dock Street.
Whilst the off-street bays can be introduced immediately the on-street disabled bay requires legislative change and will therefore take approx 6 months, but work has now commenced.
Sinn Féin Assembly Election candidate, Cllr. Sinead Ennis, welcomed the announcement of the additional disabled parking bays and said, “We need to ensure that drivers are aware that disabled bays are there for the people who need them. This is a welcome development for the many drivers that can avail of these additional spaces and will be appreciated by a lot of people.”
