Sinn Féin Assembly Election candidate, Cllr. Sinead Ennis, has welcomed the announcement of resurfacing works due to take place on the Newry/Warrenpoint carriageway.
Minister Chris Hazzard has confirmed to Cllr Sinéad Ennis that TransportNI is aware of the poor condition of approximately 2km of the south bound carriageway between Aghnamoira Road junction to approx 100m past the quarry entrance – which has been showing signs of wear and would benefit from resurfacing.
Chris Hazzard said, “The cost of this type of resurfacing scheme is substantial – however, the scheme has a high priority within the proposed works programme for the Newry & Mourne area and I am pleased that it will therefore commence later this year.”
Cllr Ennis added, “This is great news for the many people that use this stretch of road on a daily basis and has been raised continually with both myself and Chris Hazzard. I’m sure that given the importance of this resurfacing scheme, the public will cooperate with necessary road closures, while the work is being carried out.”
