Sinn Féin Councillor Róisín Howell has described her shock at a recent arson attack on a van in Castlewellan Lower Square late Thursday 3rd May.
Róisín Howell who is the local Councillor in the area in a statement said;
‘I think it is absolutely disgraceful that such an event has taken place in our town, those who have carried out this attack have not thought of the danger they put local residents in’.
‘The van itself was burned out late Thursday night around 11 o’clock. It was very lucky that someone was passing by and seen the van ablaze to report it to the fire brigade.’
‘Some of the surrounding buildings were damaged by the heat of the blaze but thankfully due to the quick response by the fire service they made sure that the fire did not spread. It was this quick response by the Fire Service that no doubt saved the life’s of residents in the area.’
‘The area is left a mess and I will be requesting that the lower square be fully cleaned by council workers to get this problem sorted’.
