South Down MP Chris Hazzard has met with staff and trade union representatives from the Royal College of Nursing and has pledged Sinn Féin’s ongoing support for nurses and public sector workers.
Speaking after the meeting on Tuesday, the local MP said:
“I was delighted to meet with staff and trade union representatives from the Royal College of Nursing to discuss the ongoing ‘Scrap The Cap’ campaign.
“Nurses deliver a very high standard of care to the South Down community in very challenging circumstances. They absolutely deserve a fair wage for their work.”
Mr Hazzard added:
“Unfortunately the DUP have given the Tory government their full support in implementing austerity. Indeed the DUP’s first act in support of the Tory government last month was to vote for an effective cut to the wages of emergency and public service workers.
“Sinn Féin oppose austerity, and we will continue to defend frontline staff and campaign for adequate funding for our public services and our public sector workers.”
