Sinn Féin’s Chris Hazzard MP has described continual flooding on the Carnreagh Road as “totally unacceptable” as once again local residents are left stranded in their homes.
The South Down MP said
“Following bad flooding on the Carnreagh Road in recent years, Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads officials confirmed that they would task engineers with investigating the site in order to find a solution to the problem.
“A year later and the Carnreagh Road is badly flooded once again, forcing many families on a lengthy bypass of the area to take children to school and travel to work each day.
Mr Hazzard added:
“I have again asked DfI Roads to address this deteriorating situation urgently. I have advised them to engage with the local community in order to keep them up to date with progress; and also to discuss the feasibility of possible solutions.
“This problem must be resolved once and for all. It is not acceptable in this day and age to have a busy rural road blocked several times a year.”
