Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard has confirmed that preliminary work is progressing on a potential Flood Defence Scheme in Leitrim village.
Following flooding of the Leitrim River in recent years, the Department for Infrastructure’s River Agency have been actively exploring the possibility of an effective defence scheme.
Chris Hazzard said:
“A pre-feasibility report has now been finalised and Rivers Agency engineers are developing a computerised hydraulic model to identify a viable project for reducing the risk of flooding in Leitrim, particularly for homes in Riverside and the nearby play park.
“This work will be completed in the next few months and if a viable scheme is identified it will be prioritised for design and construction.”
